Ceramic & Tableware

KISO is the work of 4 people during a 4 days’ workshop on ceramics.

Beginners in the field, we designed maki and sushi trays for use in a traditional Japanese restaurant.

We therefore examined the said traditions related to the preparation and consumption of these elaborate dishes and we also took into account the constraints related to indoor service in a restaurant.

The resulting shape of the final object, a set of two small trays that fit into a larger one, able to be swapped depending on the orders, and easy to clean and transport.

The tray's lines and shapes are drawn from the richness and diversity of Japanese landscapes. The round locations of the makis are reminiscent of the craters of volcanoes, those of sushi follow the curves of the mountains, the ginger stand is reminiscent of the rice fields....
